HISTORY

 

 

Riga Agricultural Central Society within Priekuļi Agriculture Institute already organized machine Testing Station in the first years of 20th century.

 

The Baltic Machinery Testing Station (Baltic MTS) was launched on its basis with governmental financial support in 1911.

 

More than ten doctors and doctor candidate of science have been working there. The Station was founded by the doctor science Viļums Skubiņš. 

 

Since 1948, the Station was subordinated under the Ministry of Agriculture of Soviet Union and it tested the agricultural machinery used in a northwestern area, thus gathering a lot of experience in the field of machinery testing. After the restoration of independence of the Republic of Latvia, the Baltic MTS moved under the management of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia in 1991.  

 

In later years, with the significant changes in station’s operating tasks and content, which mainly imposed to evaluate the compliance of machinery with human health, labour safety and environmental harmlessness requirements, State Baltic Machinery Testing Station was reorganized as a non-profit organization - State Ltd „Certification and Testing Centre for Agricultural Machinery". On 4 August 2004, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia issued an order No 550 on the reorganization of non-profit organization State Ltd „Certification and Testing Centre for Agricultural Machinery” being under the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture, and on establishment of State Limited Liability Company „Certification and Testing Centre” from 1 October 2004. Since 2011, the Centre is led by managing director Ēriks Nordens.
